Area archeologica di Claterna
Dorme intatta sotto i campi della frazione Maggio di Ozzano dell'Emilia, a mezzo metro di profondità da 1500 anni.
Da qualche anno, Claterna si è "risvegliata". La città romana che si estende lungo la Via Emilia per 600 metri e per 300 metri a nord e sud della stessa strada consolare, è la protagonista di un grande progetto di studio e valorizzazione archeologica, frutto della sinergia tra il Comune di Ozzano, archeologi locali e la Soprintendenza per i beni archeologici dell'Emilia-Romagna
Il territorio di Ozzano Emilia cela una delle più interessanti realtà archeologiche della regione. Ai due lati della via Emilia, nell’area compresa tra l’abitato di Maggio e il torrente Quaderna, si stendono i resti di una città antica, Claterna. Nessun rudere emerge in superficie; affiorano dalle zolle arate solo vestigia di quel grande passato con piccoli frammenti di vetri, ceramiche, mattoni e tessere musive di marmi colorati.
A partire dal 1891 varie campagne di scavo sono state condotte nel suolo del centro urbano antico, uno dei pochi della regione a non aver avuto continuità abitativa dall’antichità ad oggi. I saggi di scavo -tutti poi ricoperti per preservare le strutture- hanno messo in luce reperti di notevole interesse: strade, ambienti termali, case, fognature, iscrizioni, oggetti d’uso e d’ornamento. Le abitazioni mostrano stanze spaziose, con bei pavimenti spesso a mosaico o in cocciopesto decorati con disegni eleganti, geometrici o ispirati a motivi vegetali.
Nel corso del 2018, sono emersi i resti di un anfiteatro, di un impianto termale e di un nuovo mosaico lungo il tracciato della nuova pista ciclabile che collegherà Ozzano dell'emilia, sito di Claterna e Osteria Grande

He sleeps intact under the fields of hamlet Maggio of Ozzano dell'Emilia, to half a meter deep from 1500 years. For some years, Claterna, it is "awakened". The Roman city that stretched along the Via Emilia for 600 meters and 300 meters to the north and south of the same consular road, is the protagonist of a great project of archaeological study and enhancement, the result of the synergy between the City of Ozzano, the local archeologists and the Superintendence for the archaeological heritage in Emilia-Romagna
Ozzano Emilia's territory hides one of the most interesting archaeological sites in the region. On both sides of the Via Emilia, in the area between the village of May and the stream Quaderna, there are the remains of an ancient city, Claterna. No ruin emerges on the surface; crop up from the plowed sods only vestiges of that great past with small pieces of glass, ceramics, bricks and mosaic tiles of colored marble.
Starting from 1891 various excavations were conducted in the ancient urban center's soil, one of the few in the region not to have had continuity of population from ancient times to today. The excavations -all then coated to preserve the struttures- have revealed very interesting findings: roads, thermal rooms, houses, sewers, inscriptions, utensils and ornaments. The houses show spacious rooms, often with beautiful mosaic floors or earthenware decorated with elegant designs, geometric or inspired by vegetal patterns.
